    A Nikki is a type of mouth ulcer, which is so annoying, painful and frustrating that you pity it for being there. They usually occur through stress or a 'nick' in your mouth.

    People are generally difficult to define as it is. We have created terms to label people based on how they dress, act, talk, etc. But sometimes we are still deceived by the judgments we have established.

    In the activity we did in class last time, we obviously have dissimilar perceptions and ideas on bisexuals, lesbians, straight men and women, transgenders, and gays. Well it was pretty much expected that some opinions on these topics would clash because our schema on these things were practically built by the environment we grew up in. Personally, I do not completely agree on a few details which were presented, like for the description on gays. What the group drew was like the usual gay person, a guy dressed in girls’ clothes, acting like girls. If I had this activity before college, I would have agreed with their description, but now that I’ve met a number of gay people who do not dress or act like how the group characterized, my view on this is rathe...

    Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros

    One theory of gender which can be applied to Maxi's situation is the psychodynamic theory.  It states that the mother serves as a child's gender marker, and therefore primarily molds the child's gender identity. Maximo Oliveros didn't have a mother as she passed away when he was very young. That said, there was really no one who provided him guidance regarding his gender. Albeit having two older brothers and his father, there was still no particular figure who could have provided him an idea of his gender. He then turned out homosexual (which was explicitly presented during the beginning of the film).

    There is also the socialization/social-learning theory. It takes gender, or the ideas of masculinity and femininity as a social context, which means that people are highly influenced by their peers, and the world outside of their homes.     Before typing down the whole activity, can I just say, Fight Club is an awesome movie. It's a bit philosophical but I think that's why it makes a lot of sense. The rationality of what Tyler Durden speaks of, the reality, life in general.

    ANYWAY.

    What questions about male sexuality/violence does the film raise?
    1. Can violence help release repressed emotions of men?
    2. Why do they have to resort to physical violence often?
    3. Can violence be directly associated with male agressiveness?
    4. Do they consider women as the inferior gender through blaming them for their personal problems?

    The film is about Teena Brandon, a transgendered adolescent who lives to believe that she is a he. He then goes around, acting like a boy so perfectly that if you didn't know Hilary Swank, you'd probably be misled by the story and think that 'she' really is a guy.

    Anyway, I wasn't very much disturbed by the lesbo-action scenes. If I had watched this back in high school, then I had probably shut my eyes half of the time the film was playing. I don't understand this passive reaction either, but for some reason, it was just okay. I could only think of a few reasons for this:

    1 It's probably that liberal influence which took a toll on how I view situations such as this. People around me (especially boys) have candidly talked about how they enjoy watching a couple of girls making out and stuff, just as what we witnessed through the movie.     Creativity is the basis of self-expression. Why are some people supposedly more creative than others, and why can't others open themselves up enough to be able to express who they are?

    Creation is the birth of something, and something cannot come from nothing. When someone creates something: a painting, a poem, a photograph, the creativity comes from an idea, from a feeling, from emotion, or from a combination of ideas, feelings and emotions that are somehow "reborn" from all our experiences and perspectives.

    Creativity is the desire to express ourselves. To formulate these expressions, we have to draw from our "reservoir" of experience, dreams, desires, and experimentation and mix together what was, what is, and what could be… I don't think you can learn it, it is rather something that evolves. Your perception of everything in your life fills up this reservoir.

    Some people are drawn to create and express themselves, others are drawn to reflect, to analyze. But in the end, they all could ...
